Architecture

Hardware

The Déjar system is composed of five independent pieces:
The Archiver (1) takes the printer-ready spool files and places information into the Database Server (2).
The Image Server (3) accesses information from the Database Server and delivers it to up to ten concurrent Clients (4).
The Administration Tools (5) allow the database administrator to administer the database - maintaining the user names and access privileges, adjusting the period of data storage, and monitoring the migration of data to off-line media.

Software

The purchase of the basic Déjar system includes licenced software for all of the above machines, and ten concurrent licenses for individual clients.
If a client requires more than ten concurrent Clients, then additional Image Servers can be purchased.
If the clients are web-browsers, a Web Image Server is available that will serve multiple concurrent browsers.

Indexing

Déjar requires some minor changes to the page formatting of the job.
Any data field that is to be indexed must be actually printed on the page with a zero-width font to link the information with the document. The inclusion of this information in the spool file has no effect whatsoever on the printed image, but it allows Déjar to place the field data in the database. This is what makes the database searchable.
If the job is programmed using PReS, this time is minimal. If the job is not programmed in PReS*, then we can discuss the requirements with the customer, to determine the best way to implement the required change.

PrintStreams

Déjar supports the three main raster (bitmapped) printstreams in the one product - PCL, AFPDS, and Metacode.
*Note: The first North American installation of Déjar was implemented on a job that did not use PReS.
